History and Mission of the Intellectual Property Law Institute

The Institute was established in 2007 to coordinate and augment Fordham’s existing IP programs and to provide expertise for new initiatives.  It is intended to foster progress towards identifying and resolving issues of concern to the IP community, permitting policy-makers to formulate integrated, rational approaches to such concerns. In particular, it is a forum for assessing developments that could seriously affect the international IP regime.

The Institute is tailor-made for this role based on the Law School’s prominence in IP and international law, its IP alumni network, and its collaborations with Queen Mary University (London) and the Singapore Intellectual Property Academy. The Fellows Program will add to and draw on the array of Fordham’s intellectual resources, and be a vital component of the Institute, whose programs are described in the next section.
